New York Times, February 24, 2003 -- 'Free Agents' Find Too Much Free Time
---(you need to be a free NYT subscriber to view this article)
Please Note: Todd Smith, featured in the article, is a member of MBA GlobalNet.
...Projects have become smaller and less frequent than they were two years ago, said Robert Steir, the founder of MBA GlobalNet in New York, a network of management consultants who bid jointly on projects.
...
Mr. Steir of MBA GlobalNet is also the director of outreach for a nonprofit group, MBAs4NYC. He connects experienced management consultants who want to do pro bono work with small-business owners in Lower Manhattan who have yet to rebuild after the Sept. 11 attacks. The volunteers help business owners cut costs and develop marketing ideas, new products and new business channels.
"A lot of the volunteers are people who aren't working," Mr. Steir said. "But helping people energizes them instead of decreasing their energy. And it gives them something that they're doing in their line of work to talk about," and to possibly include on their résumés.

WORKING WOMAN JULY/AUGUST 2001
In an article called Talent Scouts with the subtitle of "Work-for-hire sites can connect
you with freelancers and independent contractors. Just state what you need and the databas spits out a list of
consultants, along with their resume and portfolios." MBA FreeAgents is one of the three sites listed with a written
description as follows, "Companies seeking M.B.A's can submit a project description that gets e-mailed to qualified
candidates or search through the database of 10,000 registered M.B.A.'s. The site sends the profiles
of qualified leads to the client and may conduct preliminary interviews with interested candidates. If you searches
are fruitful, you'll pay a headhunter fee of 15 percent of the total amount paid to the worker."
TIBURON GROUP, TIP OF THE WEEK
Date: 27 Jul 2001
"The Tip of the Week now reaches over 30,000 recruitment industry professionals weekly.
Dear Tiburon Group Tip of the Week Member:
Finding a resource for highly qualified MBA talent without using a search firm historically has been challenging. Not anymore. Recently our client was searching for senior level talent so we tried MBA Globalnet http://www.mbaglobalnet.com and were extremely impressed with the results. We used the Featured Opportunity service ($1,000) Within 2 days of using the service we had responses from over 30 qualified candidates. In fact, you too can view a sample of their talented members at their MBATalentWire site. The results warranted this Tip of the Week review.
As a niche site, we were impressed with breadth of service levels available.
· Traditional Job Posting:
($250 for 1 month) is for the employer that wants a standard level of service.
· Featured Opportunity:
($1,000) highlights the position on the homepage for 2 weeks and sends a targeted e-mail to a minimum of 500 potential candidates. The position remains on the regular job board for 1 month.
· Hire A MBATalentWire Member :
Priced at $7500 for the first hire, you may view at MBATalentWire.com, the profiles of invited executives who trust MBA GlobalNet as their "e-agent If you like a candidate, you will receive a personalized introduction.
· Recruiting Level Service (negotiated rate):
Utilizing the services of an experienced executive level recruiter, MBA GlobalNet will personally contact members matching your requirements and will work closely with you to fill the position. You only pay if an MBA GlobalNet candidate is hired. I am told fees are about 40-50% less than using a traditional contingency or retained search model.
· Strategic Client Program:
Priced similarly to the Recruiting Level Service, this service is geared towards companies that regularly hire MBA talent. The MBA GlobalNet recruiting team works closely with you to fully understand all your needs so they can match and telephone interview appropriate candidates. You also receive your own profile page to highlight your company and positions.
MBA GlobalNet offers a unique variety of services to attract many levels and types of MBA talent. It is a combination of 4 targeted websites designed to meet the diverse needs of both companies and MBA’s. This includes MBAGlobaljobs.com the site for full time executive level talent for positions domestically and internationally; MBAFirstJobs.com for the employers seeking MBA talent with 1-5 years of experience; MBAFreeAgents.com geared towards executive level project based opportunities; and MBATalentWire.com a site showcasing profiles of candidates that are invited to be featured based on their track records of success, achievement, and leadership.
MBA GlobalNet is a membership site so that only registered members are allowed to view positions. Currently there are over 11,000 members who on average possess 7+ years of post-MBA experience. Some are actively seeking jobs but many are more passive and will consider a career move for the “right” opportunity. This site allows them to review targeted opportunities anonymously.
Next time you need to hire someone with an MBA consider MBA GlobalNet prior to signing a hefty search contract or even posting a job on a job board. You may save time and money in hiring these difficult to find candidates."

INDUSTRY STANDARD
MBAFA's CEO, Rob Steir, is quoted in an article "Look Before You Leap appearing in print on March 19, 2001."
Excerpt from article: ....It may sound idyllic, but the trade-offs are bigger than most
would-be independents might expect. Good projects are hard to
come by, and the economic uncertainty drives many freelancers to
work harder than they did when they were salaried employees. "You
have to look long and hard at it, because being a successful free
agent takes time," warns Rob Steir, CEO at MBAFreeAgents.com, a job
site for MBAs based in New York. "Plan on six to nine months of transition."
Steir adds that there's never an ideal time to become a free agent.
One might expect companies to need more contractors now, given all the
layoffs of salaried employees, but all workers are suffering in today's
cost-cutting environment....
IT RECRUITER
MBAFA's CEO, Rob Steir, is quoted in an article What A Difference A Year Makes appearing in print in the March 2001 issue.
"For MBA FreeAgents, the shift in the dot-com economy has made us focus on providing more
high-level full-time jobs to our members and shirt our strategy away from a focus on
unfunded start-ups and new ventures. We've always had a significant number of 'successful' independent
consultants respond to project opportunities and don't foresee any inability to fill such jobs when listed. If anything, our
talent base has become even more dynamic due to more ex-dot-com execs joining as members, and their willingness
to take more traditional MBA jobs as well as dive back into the dot-com world."

PC MAGAZINE,
MBAFA is featured in an article "Put Yourself On The Block appearing online on May 26, 2000 and in their June print issue."
"MBA FreeAgents.com targets the MBA-laden professional looking
for a better employment opportunity. For those who crave stock options,
a section is devoted to start-up companies. To check out any of the job
postings though, you'll have to get past the lengthy registration form, but
doing so is well worthwhile"

of America's top business schools? That's the idea behind MBA FreeAgents.com, an MBA-placement
serice for both project work and temp-to-permanent jobs. Its unusual opportunities include analyzing business
strategies, serving as an interim executive, and joining a start-up management team on a sweat-equity basis. Once you indicate
your professional interests, MBA FreeAgents notifies you by e-mail about relevant job or project openings.
Membership won't cost you a dime (the companies seeking your expertise pick up the tab). And besides, all that tuition you've

--Excerpt: "The personal job agent at MBA FreeAgents (www.mbafreeagents.com), based in New York City, matches subscribers to jobs through their work interests
and backgrounds. users define their search criteria by describing their areas of expertise, industry experience and project qualifications. These specifics help "keep the garbage
out of people's mailboxes," says Rob Steir, the site's chief executive officer."
THE INDUSTRY STANDARD, March 22, 1999
"The MBA Draft" ------- The Judges: Rob Steir (one of three):
-- Excerpt: "As the Internet becomes a mainstream marketing and distribution channel, the stakes
for success or failure have increased significantly for Internet companies," says Rob Steir, CEO of
MBA FreeAgents.com, an online career site based in New York with a membership of more than 5,000
MBA-holders. Internet companies often lack the in-house talent to take their companies to the next
level, he adds.

On November 18, 1998
Electronic Recruiting News wrote about us.
....Neither approach solves the longer term problem...building a reliable supply of potential candidates. This is the real Electronic Recruiting question. In order to build relationships with enough potential candidates to ensure (say) 5 years of recruiting success, an operation needs to invest in the candidates themselves. Long term relationships must be built. There are few really sound examples of the approach, but we suggest that you take a very close look at MBA Free Agents.
At MBA Free Agents, the database is, well, fleshy. Half of the deal is the regular face to face get togethers. The other half is the company's ability to market a network of professionals in a niche. With patient building, the company is able to deliver a solid stream of candidates to its customers. The transactions are "webified", the recruiting is part internet and part cocktail party...."

"Skilled Workers For Rent, Not Hire"-- Excerpt: "Natalie L. Wood, president and founder of Womanhood Inc., a San Francisco-based on-line company,

MBA FreeAgents.com, a two-year-old staffing service in New York that places MBAs on temporary

Wood for four months. She later hired two Harvard
